The Morning the Power Went Out

Remember that morning this past summer when the power went out?
Yeah… that morning.

When Things First Went Sideways

The power went out just as I was finishing curling the front half of the first girl I styled. I finished her updo and paused to see what our options were.

Turns out — there really wasn’t a plan B.

So the next bridesmaid and I rolled with it. She wanted a simple bun with wisps anyway, so we did the style and prayed the power would come back on so we could curl them. Worst-case scenario, we agreed we’d just retuck them and move on.

Bridal Hair, But Make It Mobile

The next bridesmaid really wanted her hair down — so she found a creative solution and we worked out of a Jeep.

Bridal hair, but make it resourceful.

Then I found out my favourite curling iron had short-circuited… even though it was plugged into a surge protector 😭

By the grace of God, I had old faithful with me. Not ideal, but it worked — so we kept going.

We finished the remaining bridesmaids, then the flower girl. Everyone stayed calm, flexible, and honestly just rolled with the chaos.

At some point, one of the bridesmaids had her husband bring me a Caramel Ribbon Crunch. I have never been more grateful for Starbucks or a pick-me-up drink in my life.

Minutes to Spare

Finally…the power came back on!!! ⚡

Just in time — because I was this close to losing it at the thought of doing my bride’s hair outside in the heat 🥵 We finished her hair with minutes to spare, and she handled the entire situation like an absolute champion. Nerves of steel, truly 💪🏻

At this point, I’d definitely lose Never Have I Ever if this were a bridal game 😅

Also, side note: hairspray works wonders at killing and deterring wasps 🐝🐝

How do you think we did? What would you have done?
